The Taj Mahal is one of the seven wonders of the world

The Taj Mahal is the greatest proof of love ever built.

Built between 1631-1654 by Emperor Shah Jahan, the Taj Mahal is the greatest proof of love ever built. Located in Uttar Pradesh (India), it is one of the 7 wonders of the modern world that arouses more interest and admiration for its symmetry.

Behind this group of buildings, there is a sad story. Shah Jahan had it built after the death of his favorite wife, Mumtaz Mahal, during the delivery of their fourteenth child. As has been reported over the years: Mumtaz, on her deathbed, asked her husband to build her a grave and bring her flowers for her anniversary.

After more than eight days locked up, Shah decided to fulfill his promise, building him the most beautiful tomb ever. The building that would bear his name, to remind everyone, generation after generation, of the great love he felt for her. For this reason, when contemplating the Taj Majal we can feel the magnetism that its history contains.

The history of Jahan and Mahal

The romance began years before the tragic outcome. Years before even the wedding. Jahan and Mahal met when she was working in a bazaar selling crystals. The moment he saw her, he was captivated by her beauty.

However, despite that love, which was born as soon as he saw each other, he had to face the refusal of the Emperor and Jahan's father. However, five years and two marriages later, both were able to marry, taking her new name (Mumtaz Mahal), translated as the chosen one of the palace

His love was such that she supported him in all his campaigns and he showered her with gifts: flowers and even diamonds. On the death of the Emperor, Jahan took his place. Fate truncated his plans for happiness just two years after taking command.

From that sad moment, the young Emperor secluded himself in the Red Fort. He would dedicate his life to caring for his son and building the Taj Mahal. He even ordered the Yamuna River to be diverted so that it could be reflected in its waters.

Years later (1648) when Jahan died, he was able to rest with Mahal for all eternity in this magnificent construction, comparable to that of the Chinese Wall in its complexity.

The Taj Mahal, the pearl palace

Its marbles and precious stones have made it over the years the greatest proof of love, ever seen and built by man. Describing its beauty seems almost impossible. Imagine the Taj Mahal at the center of it all, surrounded by its ponds and gardens. All of it enveloped by the scent of the lotus flowers that float in its waters. The palace gives you the feeling of transmitting the immensity of deep love, a love for history.

"Palace of pearls surrounded by gardens"

With this verse from the Koran, the Taj Mahal welcomes all visitors who come to it. In this beautiful way, its bronze gate becomes a door to paradise. A paradise that must be contemplated from one of its banks while its silhouette is outlined by the blue sky.

To visit the Taj Mahal

We recommend that you stay to watch the sunset. You will live how the sky, little by little, turns pink. While in the background you can hear the songs and prayers that the inhabitants of Agra sing. It will be at that precise moment when you are aware of how much beauty, pain, and love the Taj Mahal contains.

On the other hand, we also recommend that when organizing your trip to see the palace you decide to go on a Thursday. Many visitors recommend them because it is less crowded with tourists. Weekends are usually the days when you may not enjoy as many people as you can see there.

Some tricks are recommended, one is to go during noon. Some statistics show that after the morning there are 30% fewer tourists.

Do not go in winter, you may not see anything of the palace. Due to the pollution that exists during the months that the season lasts, the fog thickens and does not allow the Taj Mahal to be seen.

Keep in mind during your visit

Try to avoid street vendors, they will even want to sell you their shirts. One of the ways to avoid them is to have a tour guide or a driver. Normally, if you travel as a group, the agencies usually schedule a guide to help you on your journey. If they don't organize it this way, don't despair, the Indian Tourist Office has guided tours.

To enter the mausoleum they will ask you to take off your shoes. But don't worry, with the entrance to the palace they give you a kind of shoe cover, like the ones at the airport. And in addition to this, they give you a bottle of water to quench the thirst produced by the temperatures of the country.

They must bear in mind that if they carry a bag or backpack they will not let them enter with bottles of water. Nor do they leave their income or food. So try to give up the bottle of water that they give with the entrance and eat well before entering.

Don't be frustrated if you can't get the perfect photo at the Taj Mahal. The gardens of the palace and its surroundings are always full of people. Don't bring a tripod, you can't go in with it. Both compact and large cameras are allowed, as is the use of mobile.

Entrance fees to the Palace

The Taj Mahal has three entrances to be able to enjoy it. According to each entrance, you may have to wait more or less, depending on the tourists who are there.

The South Entrance is called Sirhi Darwaza. It is one of the least crowded because it is located between the network and the narrow streets of Agra.

The East Entrance is called Fatehabad Gate. It is one of the best-known accesses if you want to visit the palace at night. But during the day it does not usually have that much line. Its door is oriented towards Fatehabad, it is the furthest from the center of Agra.

The West Entrance is called Fatehpuri Gate. It is the best known, and also where the largest number of tourists tend to gather. It is oriented towards the center of Agra city and has easy access on foot.

Do not forget before your trip

We know that you already want to visit this marvelous palace. You must visit your family doctor before the trip to find out what vaccinations you need to have.

During your stay in India avoid exposure to wild animals. Bring insect repellent so that you do not have any bites that harm your health.

It is also necessary that during your trip you take care of everything you eat. Do not eat anything from the street for sanitary measures.
